Head of the Serbian government’s Office of Media Relations Srdjan Djuric said that certain media outlets are running a rather primitive and unpleasant campaign against the government for not having taken appropriate measures and for not proclaiming a state of emergency in the flood-stricken areas in Banat. Djuric stressed that the government has not done so because of legal boundaries, but noted that everything that has been destroyed by floods will be renovated.
Djuric explained that the government will not proclaim a state of emergency due to those legal boundaries, and said that it is completely clear that the government will renovate all that has been damaged in this flood. This has been confirmed both by the Prime Minister and several other ministers, he recalled. He also noted that the state will do everything to get life back to normal in these areas.
Djuric said that it is inappropriate to organise such media campaigns at the misfortune of the people who are suffering great losses. He recalled that the government immediately set up a crisis-response team and is taking all necessary and needed measures to provide for and help those affected by the flood.
