The Serbian government’s crisis centre in charge of the repair of flood damage in Banat, Vojvodina announced today that the situation in the area is stabilising, but that the reduction of the water level may take several more weeks.
Latest data on the Tamis River’s water level points to a drop of 5cm near Jasa Tomic and 2cm near Medja.
In order to speed up subsiding waters in the flooded area, excess is being drained from the newly formed lakes into the Begej River basin as well as into the canal network connecting the Danube and the Tisa rivers.
Possible new water surges in the event of more rainfall are being prepared for, it was added in the announcement.
The crisis centre is also focused on health issues and has a dedicated sector that is undertaking the necessary measures to prevent the spread of epidemic through the control of drinking water and provision of extra water from cisterns.
