The Serbian Statistical Office released the publication “Serbian ethnic, confessional and linguistic mosaic” where the Census data concerning the Serbs and members of other 30 ethnic communities are analysed by using demographic, socio-confessional, socio-linguistic and legal and normative approach.
A statement by the Statistical Office says that this publication, made by Vladimir Djuric PhD, Professor Darko Tanaskovic PhD and Professor Dragan Vukmirovic PhD, offers a multidisciplinary presentation of ethnic, confessional and linguistic diversity of the population living in the territory of the Republic of Serbia by analysing their demographic, educational, migratory and socio-economic features.
In the 2011 Census of Population, Households and Dwellings , pursuant to Constitution provisions, the data on ethnic, confessional and linguistic characteristics are a result of a free expression of individuals, i.e. parents, adopting parents or guardians for the children below the age of 15.
The 2011 Census was carried out in the period from 1 to 15 October 2011, in compliance with the Law on the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings (Official Gazette of RS, No 104/09 and 24/11). The Census was financially supported by the European Union with the share of 60% in the total costs.
