Bogosavljevic-Boskovic will meet with Italian Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Mauricio Martina, who is also President of the Council of Agriculture Ministers of the EU, and who will open tomorrow ‘s conference.
The Euro-Mediterranean Conference on Agriculture, which aims to exchange experiences on measures of agricultural and food policy and rural development, with particular emphasis on the exchange of scientific knowledge and innovation, and the role of youth in the economy and society in the Euro-Mediterranean region, will also be attended by other agriculture ministers of EU member states.
Given that the Euro-Mediterranean region has many limitations such as the lack of water, land, the negative impacts of climate change, migration of the rural population and similar, it is essential that there is a stable policy of sustainability of rural areas, in order to increase competitiveness and quality of agricultural products produced in accordance with food safety standards.
At the Palermo conference, a joint declaration of agriculture ministers will be adopted as a final document, which will define common goals and recommendations concerning the activities and the role of youth in rural areas, as well as innovation, research, competitiveness and quality of agricultural products, but also concerning the mitigation of negative impacts of the climate change in the Euro-Mediterranean region, reads a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.
