Minister of Finance Lazar Krstic said today that Serbia is negotiating with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a three-year loan as a precaution, noting that no fixed dates have been yet agreed on.
Krstic said in a statement to the news agency Reuters on the sidelines of a business forum in Switzerland that Serbia seeks twice the amount of its quota in the IMF or approximately $1.5 billion.
Talks with the IMF are ongoing and we are looking for a stand-by arrangement as a precaution, he explained and expressed confidence that the negotiations with the institution will be resumed when Serbia improves its regulations.
