The agreement on the donation of €69,908 was signed by Japanese Ambassador to Belgrade Toshio Tsunozaki and headmaster of the Georgi Dimitrov elementary school Metodi Cipev.
At the press conference following the signing Minister Obradovic said that the donation will be used to replace school windows and doors, adding that since 2001 the Japanese government has donated as much as €2.3 million to the education sector in Serbia.
The cooperation between Japan and Serbia has been long and fruitful and the assistance we receive is precious, especially in times of economic crisis, the Minister said and recalled that the University of Belgrade has been exchanging professors with the University in Tokyo for two years. Japan also gives two scholarships per year to students of Japanese in Belgrade.
Tsunozaki said that this is the first of the Japanese government aid to Bosilegrad and expressed his hope that this donation will help children have better conditions in the school, especially in the winter period.
So far Japan has donated approximately €200 million to Serbia. As part of their programme for helping the population’s basic needs, Japan has carried out 113 projects, 50 of which are in the education sector.
