After a meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, Djelic said that they also discussed the further development of economic relations and the importance of continued support from Austrian banks and insurance companies for Serbia’s development and good relations between Austrian companies and Serbia.
Austria has asked Serbia to become a fully-fledged participant in the process of designing an EU strategy for the Danube region. Austria also supported the idea today of placing the secretariat of the future south eastern European transport union in Belgrade, as transport corridors 7 and 10 meet in Serbia.
Spindelegger said that Austria will support Serbia’s EU integration and added that there are many areas in which the two counties can cooperate and which would help Serbia get closer to the EU.
He said that Austria and Greece, the countries bordering the western Balkans in the south and north, launched the initiative for the region’s inclusion into the EU.
Djelic and Spindelegger said that they reached an agreement on launching several projects within the EU strategy on the Danube region, which includes non-EU members as well.
