Labus said he expects a positive feasibility study in the next few weeks and he expressed conviction that requirements concerning the Hague tribunal will be met.
He said that Serbia is one step away from getting a positive feasibility study and that it must not stumble now when it is so close to the finish.
Labus expressed hope that Serbia will start stabilisation and association talks in September.
According to him, if the political situation is favourable, the second round of these talks will be finished in December 2005. He added that this could be delayed if there are political misunderstandings.
He also expressed hope that Serbia will be on the “white Schengen list” as early as next year.
Labus recalled that the government has launched a campaign to inform the public how the EU functions and why it is crucial for Serbia to speed up its journey to Europe.
Labus said that it is surprising that young people are sceptical towards EU accession and he announced that the campaign will therefore focus on the young and their role in the European integration process.
