Reconstruction of the Zemun hospital underway

Belgrade, 16 March 2005

Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic announced today that the Zemun Clinical Hospital Centre would be fully reconstructed and equipped in a year at the latest with the help of a European Investment Bank loan of €3 million.

At a press conference held at the Zemun hospital, Milosavljevic said that the project of the Ministry of Health for urgent reconstruction of medical institutions in Serbia, financed by the European Investment Bank with a €50 million loan, includes the reconstruction of 20 general hospitals in Serbia and the “Torlak” Institute.

The realisation of this project has already begun in hospitals in Jagodina, Paracin, Sremska Mitrovica and Uzice, and is aimed at attaining certain standards in all health institutions in order to offer equal medical treatment to citizens in Serbia, the minister stated.

Director of the Zemun Clinical Hospital Centre Iva Berisavac announced that, of the €3 million loan received by this hospital, €2 million will be spent on construction work and infrastructure and €1 million on new equipment.
