Opening a plenary session of the Serbian-Bavarian Joint Commission at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) premises, Parivodic said that Bavarian businesspeople are interested in cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, mobile telephony, railways, the chemical industry, energy, the construction industry, and software development.
Parivodic, who is a co-chairman of the Serbian part of the commission, informed the Bavarian guests about Serbia’s efforts to harmonise its economic regulations with those of Europe and he recalled that Serbia expects a positive feasibility study on April 13. He also announced the passing of a law on foreign trade, which he said will further simplify operations in that area.
Advisor to the Bavarian chancellor and commission co-chairman Hans Mayer pointed out that the work of this commission had been renewed in 2001 after a ten year hiatus and added that contacts established by the commission are of special importance for small and medium size enterprises interested in new business opportunities and investments.
German Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Andreas Zobel said that he hopes that Bavaria and the rest of Germany will help Serbia in the process of EU association.
PKS Chairman Slobodan Milosavljevic pointed out that Serbia has become an important investment destination, with €2 billion of foreign direct investment, and said that the first quarter of 2005 indicates that this will be a record year in that respect.
After the plenary meeting, the commission will continue its work through working groups, as cooperation between Serbia and Bavaria also includes cooperation in the areas of environmental protection, culture, education, public security, public administration and health.
