In a telephone statement from Athens to the news agency Tanjug, Sutanovac stressed that during the two-day working visit to Greece he used the opportunity to talk with Greek President Karolos Papoulias, Minister of Defence Evangelos Meimarakis about including Serbia on the White Schengen List.
According to Sutanovac, Papoulias pledged that he will use his influence to convince his counterparts in the EU that young people in Serbia should not be isolated if the EU sincerely wants to accept Serbia as an equal member in the EU.
Sutanovac said that the Greek President stressed that he will advocate opening up borders to young people, and make it possible for Serbian people to travel in Europe.
Sutanovac said that Greek officials will make efforts to ensure Serbia gets more space within the Partnership for Peace Programme, and added that they expressed readiness to increase Greek presence in KFOR in Kosovo-Metohija if necessary.
The Serbian Minister of Defence pointed to the fact that he conducted quality talks with Papoulias and Meimarakis and expressed sorrow due to the tragedy in which two Greek pilots were killed, an event which made it impossible to hold all the scheduled meetings.
Sutanovac said that together with Meimarakis he made an analysis of cooperation between the two countries in the area of defence and on that occasion it was concluded that there is good cooperation between the two ministries. Sutanovac said that there is a Greek language school in the Serbian Ministry of Defence which was financed by the Greek Ministry of Defence.
He said that the Greek Ministry of Defence is interested in helping to revitalise the Serbian ministry so that it regains the position it once had.
