Đedović Handanović underlined that in the previous period, the Government and the competent ministry have intensified communication with Japanese institutions with the aim of reaching a final agreement on the project financing.
We are pleased that we have settled the most important outstanding issues regarding the amount of financing, the method of contracting the works, and that we determined the next steps in the preparation of tender documentation and the approval of the loan by JICA, the Minister explained.
She added that their project assessment mission will visit Serbia in March next year, which will create the conditions for concluding the loan agreement, while the technical advisors, who have been engaged for 17 months, will return to Serbia from next week.
The Minister stated that work on the preparation of project and technical documentation is continuing, while in the meantime preparatory work on the supporting infrastructure of the project will begin.
Kotaro stated that intensive cooperation and coordination between the Serbian and Japanese sides will continue in the coming period in order to ensure the successful implementation of the Bistrica pumped-storage hydropower plant project.
He emphasised the readiness of the Japanese side to solemnly sign a loan agreement during the Specialized Expo 2027 in Belgrade, which would represent an important step in the implementation of one of the most significant energy projects in Serbia.
