Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić is on a visit to Panama, where he is participating in the 56th General Assembly of the Organization of American States and the 31st Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States.
Speaking to reporters at the beginning of the visit, Đurić said that it is important for Serbia to additionally strengthen its presence in these countries and be recognised as one of the gateways to Europe, thereby creating new development opportunities and further strengthening the international standing of our country.
He explained that the participation of the Serbian delegation in the meetings in Panama is aimed at further improving bilateral relations with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting the Specialised Expo 2027 to be held in Belgrade, affirming Serbia's position regarding Kosovo and Metohija, as well as protecting the principles of international law, multilateralism and cooperation between states.
He emphasised that Serbia continues a decades-long tradition of relations with this part of the world, which represents a significant area of future development and great potential.
The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that during his stay in Panama he will use every opportunity for intensive contacts and additional promotion of Expo 2027, assessing that this event represents an opportunity for Belgrade to become a place of gathering and global dialogue in complex international circumstances.
The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean represent an area of great potential and Serbia, thinking outside the box, is striving to open new opportunities for cooperation and create additional chances to strengthen its international position, the Minister concluded.
