During a visit to the public city maintenance company Gradska Cistoca, Ljajic recalled that the ministry issued a recommendation and not an order, since there are no legal grounds for the latter.
According to Ljajic, a consensus of unions and employers is needed before any radical measure may be implemented.
Director of the Directorate for Safety and Health at Work Vera Bozic-Trefalt recalled that there are no fines for the disrespect of the ministry’s recommendation.
However, she warned that employers are under obligation to carry out other preventive measures, otherwise charges will be pressed against them.
According to Bozic-Trefalt, it is the duty of employers to provide frequent breaks, work in shifts, drinks or other measures so that employees’ health could be protected in such high temperatures.
