Talking to the media following the meeting, Popovic stressed that the delegation of the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining is the first foreign delegation which had the chance to talk with the Russian Deputy Prime Minister on the subject, and added that this shows how much importance Russia attaches to relations with Serbia.
He said that agreement was reached that a delegation consisting of Serbian government representatives and businesspeople from Serbia should take part in the fair this autumn in Kuban, to observe what is possible and necessary to offer on that market.
The delegation, which was led by Popovic, talked today with Gazprom General Director and Deputy Board President Aleksandar Medvedev.
Popovic said that he talked with Medevedev on subjects he also discussed with Russian Minister of Industry and Energy Viktor Khristenko, and specified that these are the Nis-Sofia gas pipeline project, underground gas storage facilities in Serbia and the planned increase of gas consumption in Serbia.
According to Popovic, during the meeting possibilities of cooperation in projects of building facilities which would use gas as fuel and the South Potok gas pipeline transit link which could transport gas from Bulgaria to Austria or Italy were also discussed.
He recalled that Gazprom, Srbijagas and the Serbian government signed last year in Moscow a
memorandum of understanding on constructing a main gas pipeline through Serbia, according to which a 400 kilometre long gas pipeline will be built through Serbia, from the Bulgarian border to the Croatian border.
Popovic said that in the beginning of autumn, after an expert meeting, another meeting should take place at the highest level between representatives of relevant ministries of the two countries, as well as between the Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining, Srbijagas and Gazprom.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining delegation which is on a two-day visit to Russia also includes Serbian Assistant Minister for oil and gas Slobodan Sokolovic and Serbian Assistant Minister for public companies Milutin Prodanovic, as well as Director General of the public gas company Srbijagas Milos Milankovic.
