At a public discussion organised by the Ministry of Culture, Brajovic explained that the aim of this privatisation process is to abolish media financing directly from the budget, though this process might endanger national minorities’ media.
He added that the line ministry will propose solutions so that the minorities’ right to be informed could be fully respected.
Assistant Minister of Culture Dragan Janjic said that the media reform in Serbia has been put off for seven years already and privatisation of local electronic media is one of the remaining issues.
Janjic stressed that the process must be concluded by end-2007 with the respect of domestic laws, EU standards, as well as the needs of local communities and minorities.
