Popovic, who is heading a ministry delegation on a two-day visit to Moscow, said that the delegations discussed all significant issues in the energy sector.
He explained that they talked about the underground gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor, the network of underground storage facilities in Serbia and the construction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad gas pipe line through which Russian gas would be delivered to the European market and which should go through Serbian territory.
Popovic recalled that the
Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of the artery gas pipe line through Serbia, which Russia’s Gazprom, Serbia’s Srbijagas and the Serbian government signed in Moscow on December 20 last year, envisages the construction of a 400 kilometre gas pipe line through Serbia, from the Bulgarian to Croatian border.
At the meeting, the ministers discussed Serbia and Russia’s cooperation in the energy sector, as well as alternative energy sources and cooperation in the oil sector.
Minister Popovic said he invited Hristenko to visit Belgrade in early autumn following a series of expert talks planned for end-July and august.
A new impulse to our countries’ cooperation could be given in the course of that other round of talks, said Popovic.
The Serbian delegation includes assistant ministers Slobodan Sokolovic and Milutin Prodanovic, as well as General Director of the Serbian gas company Srbijagas Milos Milankovic.
Tomorrow, the delegation will talk with Gazprom General Director and Deputy Board President Aleksandar Medvedev about plans and upcoming activities in Serbia’s gas sector, as well as the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of the gas pipe line through Serbia.
