In a statement to the Radio Television of Serbia, Jeremic reiterated that Serbia insists that the solution for the province’s future status be a compromise one and that talks between Belgrade and Pristina resume immediately, adding that a new resolution is not needed for that.
According to Jeremic, the new, fifth draft of the US-European resolution on Kosovo-Metohija relativises UN Security Council Resolution 1244 which is why this draft is unacceptable for Serbia.
He said continuation of talks is necessary, but within Resolution 1244 which unambiguously confirms Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the province. The talks must not be limited by time and their outcome predetermined, he added.
Jeremic reiterated that UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan, which Belgrade rejected, is also unacceptable and added that compromise must be sought on this matter.
The outcome must result from compromise and there is no reason why we should begin new talks if we already know how they will end, explained Jeremic and added that any imposed solutions will have serious consequences on the region and beyond.
According to Jeremic, Serbia will be forced to reconsider its relations with states which might unilaterally acknowledge the independence of Serbia’s southern province.
