Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic visited several construction sites in Novi Sad, unannounced and accompanied by his associates and twenty inspectors, in order to verify the level of respect of laws and regulations.
Ljajic said that the situation is better in Vojvodina than in other parts of Serbia, being especially good in Novi Sad, which could become an example to other places.
The Minister said that the campaign of surveillance of construction sites, which
began last week in Belgrade, will be continued and that after Novi Sad, visits to other towns in Serbia will follow, with the aim of increasing safety at work and reducing unregistered labour.
State Secretary of the Ministry Snezana Lakicevic-Stojacic said that today in Novi Sad there were 76 inspections, of which 32 in the field of occupational health and safety, and 44 in the field of labour relations.
Due to omissions in occupational safety regulations, five interim labour bans were issued, while criminal procedures were launched in eight cases. Of 312 workers at construction sites, 29 of them were unregistered.
