Belgrade does not believe that a new resolution of UN Security Council is necessary in order to continue the talks. We are ready for any form of communication - whether direct or indirect - that would take us closer to the resolution of the problem, Jeremic told reporters after the talks with Solana.
Jeremic and Solana also agreed that a lasting, stable and sustainable solution should be found as soon as possible.
However, Belgrade believes that talks should not be limited by time, the Serbian Foreign Minister said and added that he did not discuss with Solana the modality of new negotiations or their duration.
He stressed that there is enough time for debate on the format and place of new negotiations and pointed out that there must be no prejudiced solution and that the solution must be approved by the UN Security Council, as without it the solution is illegitimate.
Jeremic pointed out that it is important that Europe takes on responsibility in the further process of negotiations and added that Belgrade believes in the future of EU mission in Kosovo.
According to him, the future EU mission in Kosovo is the only part of Ahtisaari’s plan with which Belgrade agrees, and it is important that Europe remains united and to fully support the Security Council.
We will be flexible and we will work on finding a compromise solution, but there must be flexibility also on the side of Albanians and international community, the Minister said and added that Serbia will not compromise its sovereignty and territorial integrity as no country in the world would do that.
He pointed out that he discussed Serbia’s European integration with Solana and noted that they agreed to maximally speed up the process so as to open the perspective for full EU membership to Serbia.
