Speaking at a press conference, held after the signing of the agreement, Sutanovac said that the signing of this agreement is the most important moment of
his visit to Bulgaria and a political precondition for cooperation between armies of the two states.
The Serbian Army can be a bridge towards European and Euro Atlantic integrations and has an interest in educating its officers abroad, the Minister said and added that he will insist that future cooperation with the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence will include education of army members.
He also asked his Bulgarian counterpart to facilitate the visa regime for Serbian citizens because that has effect on army members as well.
He expressed gratitude to Bulgarian military officials for their contribution to security maintenance in Kosovo-Metohija, and said that Serbia is confronted by certain legal restrictions in active participation in the Partnership for Peace programme.
Minister Bliznakov stressed that cooperation between the two countries has a great future since it contributes to regional stability and inclusion of Serbia into Euro-Atlantic integration. He added that Bulgaria supported and will continue to support Serbia’s active participation in the Partnership for Peace programme.
The Serbian Army and Ministry of Defence delegation held a number of bilateral meetings in Sofia, and Minister Sutanovac is also scheduled to meet with Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.
