State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of International Economic Relations Vlatko Sekulovic said today that Serbia must work on improving its image, changing its system of values and inform Serbian citizens on the EU so that it may become an EU member.
Sekulovic, who participated in a round table titled “Eurointegrations and Communications”, said that it is of crucial importance for us to realise that dominant system of values in the EU should be dominant in Serbia too.
He noted that survey of the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office show that 69% citizens of Serbia support country’s membership in the EU.
He stressed that the country’s image needs to change as the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) will be conditional upon ratification in all EU member countries.
Deputy Director of the Serbian government’s EU Integration Office Srdjan Majstorovic said that the process of stabilisation and association is not the process of one government or interested group rather the citizens’ themselves, because of which it is precisely the citizens who should be brought closer to this process.
Majstorovic explained that this is the process of internal reforms and it is necessary that citizens participate in it so that Serbia becomes a modern and democratic state, which will later be able to play a role in the formation of EU policies.
