In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Vlajcic warned that consumption of electricity is growing in Europe, and present production is becoming insufficient.
He said that even in countries where electricity is many times more expensive than in Serbia, the price of electricity can not cover funds for constructing new power plants.
The Assistant Minister explained that achieving stability in power supply is a global European problem, consumption is increasing throughout Europe and Serbia is wasting electricity through irrational consumption, which was pointed out by the Ministry several times.
Vlajcic said that rational consumption and construction of new production and transmission infrastructure is the only way to alleviate the energy crisis, since the price in neighbouring electricity markets has been raised to eight Euro cents per kilowatt-hour, which is a major disturbance in the electricity market.
According to Vlajcic, electricity is currently the cheapest form of energy in Serbia and is even 40% cheaper than gas, and 23% cheaper than remote heating, it is easy to use for heating, and takes a significant toll on energy efficiency.
He said that all European electricity networks are connected through the UCTE system, so that every problem and setback in the functioning of the system in one country is manifested in other countries. He added that increased consumption leads to the daily use of reserve capacities.
Vlajcic recalled that due to its geographical position Serbia is the centre of electric energy in South East Europe and that every disruption in the Serbian system could create major consequences regarding security in electricity supply in the region.
