Zoran Stojkovic
Stojkovic told Tanjug news agency that the amnesty bill envisages that certain categories of sentenced persons be partially freed from the execution of a quarter of their sentences.
Those excluded from amnesty are persons found guilty of most serious crimes for which the law envisages prison sentences of 40 years, or persons who have been tried and found guilty of organised crime, crimes against humanity and other crimes punishable under international law.
This exception does not include persons above 70 years of age.
The Serbian government has demanded that this law is adopted through urgent procedure, with the aim of creating better conditions regarding accommodation for those convicted, and to harmonise criminal legislation in Serbia with international standards in executing penal sentences.
