Opening a meeting of the Enhanced Permanent Dialogue between representatives of the Serbian government and the European Union, Loncar said that article 1 of the new Constitution that speaks about adherence to European principles and values, opens the door for Serbia's European future.
Serbian parliament speaker Predrag Markovic announced the upcoming parliamentary elections which will, as he said, confirm the democratic legitimacy of political factors and most important institutions in the Republic of Serbia.
Ambassador of Finland, a country that holds EU presidency this year, Anna-Maija Korpi confirmed once more the certainty of Serbia's European future. As a concrete example of support, she said that a mandate for negotiations on the relaxation of the visa regime will be adopted and that the EU will continue to assist Serbia financially.
Korpi said that the EU is ready to continue negotiations on the conclusion of the stabilisation and association agreement with Serbia immediately after it realises full cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
Director-General of the European Commission's Enlargement Directorate-General Michael Leigh said that in the Annual report on Serbia's progress in the process of stabilisation and association, it is underlined that the EU remains committed to full cooperation with Serbia in fulfilling its obligations in the process of European integration, which are the same for all countries that are accessing the EU.
The Commission especially commended progress made in complicated political circumstances, but at the same time pointed to challenges that are to come.
The second plenary meeting was dedicated to the new Constitution of Serbia, the Constitutional law and electoral legislation. Representatives of the European commission were acquainted with basic principles and new aspects of the Constitution, the method of its implementation, relationship between international law and the Constitution, legal foundations for European integration, as well as fulfillment of criteria from Copenhagen in this supreme legal act.
