Serbia committed to strengthening ties with Azerbaijan, Tunisia

Belgrade/New York, 23 September 2026

Minister of Foreign Affairs in a caretaker capacity Marko Đurić held talks today in New York, where he is attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov regarding the further strengthening of ties between the two countries.

Đurić stated that relations between the two nations are founded on traditional friendship, mutual trust and respect for the fundamental principles of international law, emphasising that Serbia views Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in building long-term strategic relations.

The talks also covered current topics, and Đurić highlighted the importance of continued close coordination and an open exchange of views on matters of mutual interest.

Đurić also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad of the Republic of Tunisia, Mohamed Ben Nafti.

He emphasised Serbia’s interest in intensifying political dialogue and organising high-level visits, extending an invitation to Minister Ben Nafti to visit Serbia.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Tunisia for its firm stance in respecting Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as on issues of importance to Serbia.

Regarding economic cooperation, it was noted that there is significant potential for its enhancement, as well as for closer ties in the fields of culture and education.

Đurić also discussed concrete steps with his interlocutor concerning Tunisia’s participation in Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade, noting that the event would offer a great opportunity for Tunisia to showcase its potential and further promote opportunities for cooperation with Serbia.
