EU membership strategic foreign policy commitment for Serbia

Minister of Foreign Affairs in a caretaker capacity Marko Đurić met today with Emanuele Giaufret, Deputy Managing Director for Western Europe at the European External Action Service, to discuss Serbia’s European path, the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as current regional and international issues.

Đurić reiterated that membership in the European Union is a strategic foreign policy commitment for Serbia, stressing that it is of great importance to the country that the enlargement policy remains a priority for EU institutions and member states.

The head of Serbian diplomacy underscored the importance of continuous and substantive political dialogue between Serbia and the European Union with a view to continuing reform activities in the accession process, strengthening stability and improving connectivity in the Western Balkans region.

With regard to Kosovo and Metohija, he stressed the importance of preserving peace, stability and security, as well as the need for the agreements reached and commitments undertaken so far to be consistently implemented.

As he reiterated, Serbia remains firmly committed to dialogue under the auspices of the European Union, expecting this process to contribute to concrete results and the building of sustainable trust.

Speaking about the situation in the region, Đurić said that Serbia is paying full attention to improving regional cooperation, as well as further strengthening mutual understanding and respect.
