Minister without portfolio in a caretaker capacity in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women Tatjana Macura met today with the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Serbia, Anke Holstein, as well as with the new UNICEF Representative in Serbia, Christina de Bruin.

Gender equality should play stronger role in regional cooperation

During the meeting with Holstein, Macura highlighted the importance of continuing intensive political dialogue between Serbia and Germany, as well as cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in light of Germany’s role in Serbia’s European path and the development of the Western Balkans.
The interlocutors discussed advancing gender equality as an important part of the democratic development of society and European integration, and also considered opportunities for giving these issues a stronger role in regional cooperation and the Berlin Process.
Macura also spoke with the UNICEF Representative in Serbia about continuing successful cooperation in the area of preventing violence involving children, with a particular focus on protecting girls, as well as about continuing the work of the National Coalition to End Child Marriage.
She stressed that joint action by institutions and international partners is of great importance in protecting children from all forms of violence and discrimination, and pointed to the need to ensure a safer and more supportive environment for every child’s upbringing through concrete policies and programmes.
