Intensive cooperation with Republika Srpska in field of judiciary

Belgrade/Banja Luka, 18 September 2026

Minister of Justice in a caretaker capacity Nenad Vujić talked today in Banja Luka with Minister of Justice of Republika Srpska Goran Selak about further enhancing cooperation in the field of judiciary, exchanging experiences and expertise, and specific forms of institutional cooperation between the respective ministries.

The talks especially focused on cooperation regarding the oversight of court and public prosecutor's office operations, given Serbia's experience in this area and the fact that Republika Srpska has begun developing and institutionally establishing this function this year.

Vujić underlined that Serbia has fully aligned its judicial legislation with the standards of the Council of Europe's Venice Commission. He noted that, thanks to years of experience in overseeing the work of courts and prosecutor's offices, Serbia is well-positioned to support colleagues from Republika Srpska in establishing and developing their own oversight system.

The meeting also addressed enhancing cooperation in the field of notarial services, specifically between the Chamber of Public Notaries of Serbia and the Chamber of Notaries of Republika Srpska, as well as cooperation between the Judicial Academy of Serbia and the Education Centre of Republika Srpska.

Vujić emphasised the importance of developing this cooperation, noting that there is scope in all these areas for the exchange of experiences and best practices, as well as for discussing the associated challenges.

Vujić and Selak agreed that the ministries of justice of Serbia and Republika Srpska will continue their intensive cooperation in the period ahead, particularly through concrete working meetings, the exchange of experiences, and joint efforts to enhance institutional capacities within the judiciary.
