Milosavljevic said on the occasion that the funds worth €20,000 have been invested in the centre and it is equipped with necessary medical equipment, computers and a motor vehicle for the mobile unit.
The Minister of Health recalled that owing to preventive medical care, the heart attack mortality rate was reduced from 18.7% to 10.5% in the last four years, adding that prevention can largely reduce the high cancer mortality rate.
The statistics say that 80% of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented, and in 40% of cases, malign tumours do not develop if risky behaviour is abandoned, Milosavljevic stressed.
The project of the Ministry of Health "Improving preventive health care in Serbia" is financed by the European Union through the European Agency for Reconstruction and is worth €3.4 million, and the centre in Sabac is 21st out of a total of 25 that are planned to be opened in Serbia.
These centres are intended to prevent the occurrence of diabetes, cardiovascular and malign diseases, and are formed as special organisational units in 25 regional community health centres that will be visited by persons who want to check their health.
If a doctor in the preventive centre discovers indications of a disease, the patient will undergo further specialist examinations.
