Macut underlined that Serbia’s membership in the European Union is one of the country’s foreign policy priorities and highlighted the government’s commitment to continue implementing reforms aimed at improving the rule of law, strengthening institutions, economic development and raising citizens’ living standards.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, recognising it as an important mechanism for accelerating reforms and economic rapprochement with the European Union.
The interlocutors discussed the results achieved to date in the implementation of the Reform Agenda, as well as the activities that need to be carried out in the coming period in order to ensure its full implementation and further progress of Serbia on its European path.
Particular attention was dedicated to deadlines for the implementation of the remaining obligations by the end of June, including the adoption of laws and other reform measures important for strengthening the rule of law and continuing the accession process.
It was agreed to hold further meetings between representatives of the Government of Serbia and the European Commission in order to ensure timely monitoring of progress and fulfilment of the planned dynamics of activities.
Koopman welcomed Serbia’s efforts to date in implementing reforms and expressed his expectation that the reform process will continue with the same intensity, with a constructive dialogue with European institutions.
At the meeting, it was concluded that it is necessary to intensify activities to adopt the remaining legal solutions and implement reforms in accordance with European standards, so that Serbia can accelerate preparations for opening the remaining clusters in the accession process.
The mutual commitment to regular communication and holding working meetings during June was confirmed, so that all planned activities can be implemented within the stipulated deadlines.
The meeting was attended by Head of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union and Chief Negotiator Ambassador Danijel Apostolović, Deputy Prime Ministers Adrijana Mesarović and Ivica Dačić, line ministers, Secretary-General of the Government Petar Janjić and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia Andreas von Beckerath.
