Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today appealed to citizens to use electricity rationally over the coming days, given the prolonged heatwave and increased consumption, in order to preserve the stability of Serbia’s energy system.

Energy sector facing serious, challenging situation

Macut noted that the situation in the energy sector is currently serious and challenging, primarily due to the exceptionally low water level of the Danube and the extreme heat, which is further increasing electricity consumption.
He stressed that the state and the line institutions are taking all necessary measures to preserve the stability of the power system and ensure the uninterrupted supply of electricity to citizens and the economy. The situation is being monitored on an hour-by-hour basis, the Prime Minister emphasised.
The Prime Minister appealed to all citizens to reduce the use of air conditioners and other major electricity consumers over the coming days, particularly during periods of peak demand, as every individual contribution can help overcome this challenging period with as few consequences as possible.
The Prime Minister announced that an emergency session of the Emergency Response Team will be held tomorrow morning to consider all aspects of the current situation and adopt the necessary measures to preserve Serbia’s energy stability.
Macut stressed that, under these circumstances, it is most important for everyone to remain calm, responsible and united. He added that, following the session of the Emergency Response Team, the public will be informed in a timely manner of the conclusions reached and the measures to be taken to preserve the stability of the energy system and ensure a secure electricity supply.
