Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, attended today the opening of the Serbia Calls You sports and educational camp, which is bringing together more than 400 boys and girls of Serbian nationality from 17 countries, the region and Kosovo and Metohija in Belgrade from 1 to 11 August.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations with the diaspora Đorđe Milićević.
Macut said that this camp demonstrates that Serbia is not only one’s country of origin but also a home to which one always returns, stressing that preserving ties with the Serbian people around the world is one of the Government of the Republic of Serbia’s permanent priorities.
The Prime Minister noted that the project brings together children from the diaspora, the region and Kosovo and Metohija with their homeland, the Serbian language, culture, history and tradition, while nurturing a sense of belonging and national identity among younger generations.
He noted that, over the coming days, participants will acquire new knowledge through sports and educational programmes, develop team spirit and build friendships that will create lasting bonds.
Macut underlined that it is the duty of the state to show every child who carries Serbia in their heart that they are always welcome in their homeland, adding that the government will continue to support programmes aimed at strengthening ties with Serbs living abroad, as young people are the most important guardians of the Serbian language, culture, tradition and national identity.
Speaking about the importance of sport and education, the Prime Minister said that sport promotes solidarity, discipline and mutual respect, while education preserves the foundations of the national and cultural heritage, which is why it is important for young people, wherever they live, to maintain a strong connection with their homeland.
The Serbia Calls You camp is organised by the Office of the Minister without portfolio responsible for relations with the diaspora, in cooperation with the Sportstars sports association, as part of the Government of the Republic of Serbia’s activities aimed at strengthening ties with the Serbian diaspora and Serbs in the region.
The programme includes educational activities focusing on the Serbian language, history, culture and tradition, as well as sports activities across several Olympic disciplines, with the aim of further bolstering solidarity, mutual trust and a sense of belonging to Serbia among young people.
