The ceremonial academy at the Palace of Serbia, which began with the performance of the national anthem Bože pravde (God of Justice), was also attended by Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić, ministers in the Government of Serbia, numerous members of the Ministry of the Interior and the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as representatives of the police forces of Montenegro, Hungary and Republika Srpska.
As part of the ceremony, the most distinguished members of the Ministry of the Interior were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.
Addressing those gathered at the ceremonial academy, Vučić emphasised that members of the police and the Ministry of the Interior are a pillar of the state, adding that this is the most honourable calling for the brave and determined.
He also expressed gratitude to police veterans who have always served their homeland and, together with soldiers, fulfilled the most sacred patriotic duties.
At the same time, the President of the Republic said that efforts to equip, renew and modernise the police will continue, and that significantly more funds will be invested, particularly in the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, the Gendarmerie, the Police Brigade and all units operating in the field and exposed to the greatest risks.
Dačić stressed that today honours the courage and dedication of all members of the Ministry of the Interior, who safeguard the peace and security of Serbia’s citizens.
He said that the uniform and badge of Serbia’s Ministry of the Interior are sacred, and that no one is, nor will ever be, stronger than the law and the state, adding that the work performed by police officers is unlike any other profession.
Joining this service is not ordinary employment, but rather a kind of pledge that police officers will serve their country and their people regardless of the difficulties they face, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised.
Dačić pointed out that the lowest number of criminal offences in the past 35 years was recorded last year, specifying that there were 123,490 criminal offences in 2001, compared to 64,847 last year.
He also stated that those who bring disgrace upon the police must be dismissed and arrested, and that it must not be allowed for honest police officers, who risk their lives for this country, to be tarnished by such actions.
