Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić attended today at Belgrade Airport the ceremony of sending off the remains of the ancestors of the founder of Zionism, Theodor Herzl, PhD.
Đurić emphasised that it was a great honour for him to attend, on behalf of the Government of Serbia, the sending off of the remains of Simon and Rivka Herzl to the State of Israel, where they will be buried in Jerusalem.
This exceptional family will rest there, as will the founder of Zionism, who managed to turn a dream into reality in just one generation, the Minister said, adding that today we pay tribute to their memory with the intention of writing another chapter in the history of our cooperation with dignity, in a manner befitting the cordial and fraternal relations that have existed for centuries between the Jewish and Serbian peoples.
The Minister said that we will continue to cherish the memory of Theodor Herzl and his family, who laid the foundations of Zionism and lived in an era that inspired the Serbian national movement and the creation of modern Serbia.
