At the meeting, held at the City Hall in Novi Sad, Macut assessed that Serbia and North Macedonia maintain traditionally close and friendly relations based on mutual trust, regional cooperation and a shared interest in the stability and development of the Western Balkans.
Prime Ministers Macut and Mickoski also discussed the marking of the 80th anniversary of the settlement of Macedonians in Vojvodina, a significant jubilee that bears witness to the long-standing historical, cultural and family ties between the two peoples.
The interlocutors emphasised that the Macedonian community in Serbia represents an important bridge of cooperation and friendship between Serbia and North Macedonia, as well as a significant part of the multicultural identity of Vojvodina and Serbia.
Current regional issues were also discussed, with emphasis placed on the importance of preserving peace, stability and constructive dialogue. The Prime Ministers of Serbia and North Macedonia reaffirmed their commitment to continuing regular political dialogue.
Following the meeting, the Prime Ministers attended a ceremonial academy held at the Student Cultural Centre in Novi Sad to mark the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the organised settlement of Macedonians in Vojvodina as part of the then colonisation of Vojvodina.
Addressing the ceremony, Macut stated that much has changed over the past eight decades since the first Macedonian families arrived, bringing with them memories and hopes.
States and international circumstances have changed; we have experienced tremendous progress and major setbacks, wars, sanctions and the rebuilding of the state. However, some things have remained unchanged – respect and friendship between our peoples, the Serbian Prime Minister said.
He emphasised that he could proudly say that the National Council of the Macedonian National Minority operates at full capacity, that education in the Macedonian language is available, and that this will continue in the future.
Plaques recognising special contributions to the advancement of the rights of the Macedonian national minority in the Republic of Serbia were presented to Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, President of the Provincial Government Maja Gojković and Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski.
