Serbia in favour of developing relations with different partners worldwide

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated today that Serbia is clearly oriented towards the European Union, but that it should not close the door to other partners, assessing that our country has maintained its international position thanks to traditional friendships with the Non-Aligned countries.

Speaking on the Uranak show on K1 Television, Macut emphasised that these friendships have political and economic significance, and that among the mentioned countries there are a large number of those that have not recognised the self-proclaimed independence of the so-called Kosovo.

He stated that the commemorative meeting in Belgrade dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of Heads of State or Government of the Non-Aligned Countries, held in Belgrade from 1 to 6 September 1961, showed that there is a need for multilateralism in the world.

He explained that non-alignment does not mean the absence of cooperation, but the possibility for a state to develop relations with different partners and determine its interests independently.

Emphasising that the Non-Aligned Movement represents a support for the modern world in its attempt to get out of the guided directing of policies, the Prime Minister recalled that Serbia currently has observer status in this movement, but that this does not diminish its importance within this group.

According to him, the organisation of the commemorative meeting in Belgrade has shown that our country inherits the history of a great country like Yugoslavia, that it has successfully carried on that continuity, and that it has the necessary capacity, diplomatic knowledge and experience to gather a large number of international delegations.

Macut said that a political message was sent yesterday that Serbia belongs to the Non-Aligned and added that he expects concrete results in the areas of economy, education, energy and digital technologies.

He assessed that Serbia needs to renew former ties, but also to adapt them to modern needs, as well as to pay more attention to renewable energy sources.

There is also great room for cooperation in the field of digitalisation, because numerous countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America want to modernise state administration and other public systems, the Prime Minister pointed out and emphasised that Serbia can offer digital technologies and experience in this area.
