Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, chaired today the Second Session of the Council for Family and Demography, at which strategic directions and measures in the areas of demographic development and family support were discussed.
Macut stated that the new demographic development strategy of Serbia for the period 2026–2036 will be the first comprehensive document that will unite the issues of family, birth, migration, health, education, employment and regional development into one serious state policy.
He underlined that the state remains committed to adopting responsible and sustainable measures that will contribute to demographic renewal, balanced regional development and a better quality of life for citizens.
The Prime Minister emphasised that investing in the family is also investing in the future of Serbia and added that the Government will continue to create measures that encourage births, the retention of young people in the country and the strengthening of social stability.
Demographic policy, as he stated, includes more secure jobs, solving the housing issue of young people, accessible kindergartens, better healthcare, support for parents, protection of reproductive health, but also a more balanced development of Serbia.
The Council for Family and Demography was formed as an inter-sectoral body of the Government of Serbia to monitor demographic trends, propose population policy measures and coordinate activities aimed at supporting the family and demographic development of Serbia.
