At the gathering, which was held at the Europe House in Belgrade, two projects in the field of Serbia’s digitalisation were presented.
Macut pointed to the importance of introducing free internet in 117 municipalities in Serbia, a project implemented in cooperation with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), as well as the construction of a broadband network in rural areas, supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
He emphasised that these projects embody the essence of the European Union and something perhaps forgotten in the sea of high politics and bureaucracy – connecting people, economies and societies at all levels.
He explained that the second phase of building a broadband network in rural areas represents an investment in the future of villages and directly helps their survival, emphasising that providing free internet in municipalities across Serbia is very important for citizens in these places.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the EU partners for their support in the implementation of these projects, which is of great importance on the path to the complete digitalisation of Serbia.
Macut announced that he would also open the first mobile office of the Prime Minister later in the day, which would contribute to the successful implementation of these two projects.
This is exactly what we need – to do concrete things to improve the quality of life for every citizen of the Republic of Serbia through synergy between the government, local institutions, the EU and partners, such as the EBRD and GIZ, the Prime Minister said.
The event “Connecting Serbia: Digital Access for Every Community” was organised by the EU Delegation to Serbia, the EBRD and GIZ.
Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath and German Ambassador to Serbia Anke Konrad also spoke about the importance of these projects.
