At the meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Education Professor Dejan Vuk Stanković, PhD, Assistant Minister of Education for Higher Education Aleksandar Jović, representatives of the Serbian Statistical, as well as representatives of the universities in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Kragujevac, Macut said that it was time to modernise higher education institutions and to move things forward and improve them in every respect.
The Prime Minister underlined that new, higher quality study programmes must be jointly designed, given that the programmes at domestic faculties have remained the same for decades and do not follow contemporary trends in education.
He also pointed out that it is necessary to address issues related to teaching staff and to establish standards for monitoring study programmes at higher education institutions in Serbia.
All of this is aimed at better planning for the future, the Prime Minister said, adding that discussions on these topics would continue at the level of faculty groups, where concrete proposals for solutions would be presented.
Stanković stressed that systemic solutions are needed in order to have an innovative yet stable higher education system.
At the next meetings, he added, a platform for the future of higher education in Serbia should be developed.
