Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today visited Bor, where he toured the Bor Health Centre, spoke with doctors and medical staff about improving healthcare in this part of Serbia and held a meeting with businesspeople from the area.
Macut pointed to the great importance of the Bor Health Centre in providing healthcare services to citizens of this region, emphasising the importance of investment in equipment, infrastructure and personnel.
He stressed that improving the healthcare system across the country is among the government’s priorities, adding that, with the support of the Ministry of Health, the maternity ward in Bor has been renovated and medical equipment upgraded.
The Prime Minister said that the construction of a new hospital in Bor is planned, with the start of works expected this year.
Macut stated that the results of development are already visible in Bor, primarily through rising salaries and increased economic activity, and noted that the government continues to invest in road infrastructure, the economy and tourism.
The entire concept of strengthening eastern Serbia, which has been ongoing for years, should gain even greater momentum in the coming period within the framework of Serbia’s integrated development programme, and I hope that we will succeed in achieving the plans related to this part of Serbia, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister stressed that there can be no strong and stable state if only one part of it develops, and announced the continuation of intensive investment in the cities of eastern Serbia, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare and economic development.
