Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, spoke today with heads of administrative districts, who introduced him to their methods of work, needs and challenges in their operations.
Macut said that administrative districts represent an important link between state bodies and local self-government units, because they are the ones ensuring that state decisions and policies are implemented on the ground, and that coordination with inspection services contributes to better cooperation.
He noted that it is a lack of inspectors in certain districts that poses a challenge, adding that it is therefore important to approach this issue systemically, through better coordination of line ministries and the planning of personnel capacities, with the aim of ensuring more efficient work of public administration in the field.
The Prime Minister stated that the heads of administrative districts indicated the possibility that districts could have a more significant role in the state administration system in the future.
Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović announced the adoption of amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government.
She pointed out that heads of administrative districts are formally an extended arm of the Government of Serbia in contact and communication with local self-government units.
