Minister for Family Care and Demography Jelena Žarić Kovačević highlighted in New York today Serbia’s full commitment to improving prevention, protection and coordinated action to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
At a high-level meeting on violence against women and girls, within the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Žarić Kovačević stated that our country is addressing the causes of violence by combining legal reforms with awareness-raising, education and institutional cooperation, while strengthening a culture of zero tolerance towards violence.
She noted that our legal solutions, together with general and specialised protocols for the protection of children from abuse and neglect, provide a clear framework for coordinated action.
At the same time, we are increasingly using the role of technology – especially through the national platform “I Protect You”, which provides information and a safe digital channel for reporting violence, the minister explained.
A strong and coordinated response system plays an equal role, she pointed out, adding that Serbia promotes close cooperation between the health, justice, police and social welfare sectors.
In addition, she noted, our country has established the Alimony Fund, providing economic support to children of divorced parents, thereby strengthening their financial security and reducing vulnerability.
Our country remains committed to expanding effective practices, strengthening partnerships, and investing in sustainable solutions so that every woman and child can live safely, with dignity, and free from violence, Žarić Kovačević concluded.
