Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today spoke with Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Alain Berset about improving cooperation between Serbia and the organisation.
The meeting provided an opportunity for an open and constructive exchange of views on key issues of importance for Serbia and the region.
Macut and Berset discussed Serbia’s European path, improving democratic standards, strengthening institutions, the rule of law and the protection of human rights.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Serbia remains firmly committed to reforms that contribute to strengthening democratic institutions and improving the rule of law.
He pointed out the importance of cooperation with the CoE in the process of improving the legislative and institutional framework, in line with European standards.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the CoE for its continued support in preserving peace, stability and security, as well as in protecting the rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on the importance of regional cooperation and preserving stability in Southeast Europe.
The importance of joint projects that contribute to strengthening institutions and improving the protection of citizens' rights was also highlighted.
The meeting was assessed as an important step in further deepening cooperation between Serbia and the CoE.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Ambassador to the CoE Suzana Grubješić.
