The officials discussed the work of the Working Group established to find sustainable solutions that will facilitate the stay and work of professional drivers and transport companies from the region in the Schengen area member states.
The Working Group is composed of representatives of the European Commission and the Western Balkan countries.
At its meetings held so far, the Working Group discussed proposals for improving the existing framework and finding solutions to the difficult situation faced by transport operators, including modalities for implementing the new Entry/Exit System (EES).
Particular attention was paid to identifying solutions that would enable a more efficient and flexible regime of stay for professional drivers, while respecting the rules and procedures applicable in the Schengen area.
Macut stressed that it is very important to find a solution as soon as possible, with the aim of preserving competitiveness, transport efficiency and the continuity of trade and investment flows.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of continuous dialogue with European partners and underlined that improving the working conditions of transport operators is of great importance for the economy of Serbia and the entire region, as well as for the European Union, given the key role of the transport sector in supply chains and foreign trade.
He stated that Serbia will continue to actively participate in the work of the Working Group and contribute to formulating solutions that will be in the interest of the economy, transport companies and drivers, while complying with European standards and regulations.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarević, representatives of the Ministry of European Integration and representatives of transport operators’ associations.
