Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, opened today in Belgrade the Master Move – United for Serbia event, which brought together 100 young chess players from the diaspora and the region.
At the opening, Macut emphasised that chess teaches patience, strategic thinking and respect for one’s opponent, but that this tournament is not a battle between opponents, rather a message that we are one people, wherever we may live.
Seeing you gathered here from so many countries, I see something that cannot be measured in words – it is love for Serbia, it is love for the country from which you originate. Regardless of where you live, you carry Serbia within you, through language, culture, family and the values that shape the identity of those who come from this country, the Prime Minister said.
He added that children from the diaspora participating in the tournament represent Serbia’s link with the world, as well as its future.
The Master Move – United for Serbia event is organised by the Office of the Minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations with the diaspora Đorđe Milićević.
The event brings together young people from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Finland, France, Switzerland, Austria, Cyprus, Germany, England, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Serbia.
