Macut initiated the formation of an operational team that will meet on a weekly basis and discuss how to find solutions and implement agreements reached.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to examining the professional, technical and organisational capacities of the Military Medical Academy and the potential for their additional engagement in order to strengthen the healthcare of citizens.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Professor Ivana Stašević Karličić, MD, DSc, said that the ministry is committed to reducing waiting lists and that they no longer exist in 13 institutions.
These are lists for cataract surgery, coronagraphy and magnetic resonance imaging, she said, adding that only the waiting list for orthopaedic surgeries remains.
Prime Minister Macut’s interlocutors emphasised that a new methodology for forming waiting lists for hip and knee surgeries is being implemented in all health institutions and that at the moment, slightly less than 20,000 patients are waiting for this type of surgery on the updated list.
They particularly highlighted the challenge of the number of trained orthopaedic surgeons and nurses, considering that they are one of the key elements in performing successful surgeries in the shortest possible time.
When it comes to professional medical staff, the Prime Minister said that in addition to surgeons and orthopaedic specialists, there is a particular lack of middle-level professional staff.
