Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, attended in Athens last night a ceremonial reception organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Greece on the occasion of Statehood Day.
Speaking at the gathering, Macut emphasised that relations between Serbia and Greece are deeply rooted in history, faith and common values, and that they represent the foundation of a strong political dialogue, cooperation in the fields of security, economy, education and sports.
He underlined that Serbia remains committed to strengthening the strategic partnership with Greece and improving regional stability.
Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Greece Nikola Nedeljković expressed his gratitude in his address to the Greek people, the Greek Orthodox Church and the political leadership for their continued support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia regarding Kosovo and Metohija, as well as for their strong support for Serbia's European path.
He underlined that in times of global challenges, the friendship and brotherly relations between Serbia and Greece represent an example of stability, mutual respect and solidarity.
The cultural and artistic part of the programme featured a performance by the Police Orchestra of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior with Ljubica Vraneš, and the guests had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Serbian songs, as well as Serbian cuisine and wines.
The reception was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, Minister of Sport Zoran Gajić and Secretary-General of the Serbian government Petar Janjić.
Also present were high-ranking officials of the Hellenic Republic – Speaker of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, Minister of National Defence Nikolaos Dendias, Minister of the Interior Theodoros Livanios, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ioannis Kefalogiannis and Minister of Sports Ioannis Vroutsis.
Among the guests were 53 ambassadors, including the ambassadors of Latvia, Georgia, Jordan, South Africa, Thailand and Chile, who cover Serbia from Athens on a non-residential basis, as well as Ambassador of the United States of America Kimberly Ann Guilfoyle.
The reception was also attended by numerous representatives of the economy, diplomacy, sports and the church.
