Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated in Athens late today, after a meeting with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis, that they discussed the improvement of cooperation, European integration and the situation in the region.
Macut told the reporters that he also informed Mitsotakis about the stabilisation of political circumstances in our country and the continuation of dialogue with universities.
When it comes to European integration, he said that Serbia is actively and responsibly working on implementing reforms and fulfilling obligations on the European path, regardless of the dynamics of opening clusters.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Serbia and Greece have historically had good relations, which is an important message, given the closeness of our two peoples and the common interest in further strengthening overall cooperation.
The Prime Minister then attended a reception on the occasion of Statehood Day, organised by the Embassy of Serbia in Athens.
On that occasion, he said that the ties between Serbia and Greece are strong and fraternal, and added that the closeness of the two countries is reflected not only in politics, but also in the connection of peoples, culture, religion and tradition.
Prime Minister Macut stated that, although throughout history, namely at the beginning of the 19th century, the Greek and Serbian nations were under foreign rule, they never abandoned the idea of freedom and the re-establishment of an independent and sovereign state.
The reception on the occasion of Statehood Day was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, Minister of Sports Zoran Gajić, representatives of the Greek Government and the country's Ministry of Defence, as well as diplomats and ambassadors of foreign countries in Greece.
