Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić held talks today, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Theresa Lazaro.
Đurić pointed out that the friendly relations between the two countries date back to the time of the Non-Aligned Movement, and stressed the readiness to further build bilateral relations on these foundations, while expanding cooperation in all areas of mutual importance.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the Philippines’ support for preserving Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and its consistent position on non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.
During the meeting, the importance of continuing bilateral political consultations was also noted, as a useful practice that contributes to better understanding and strengthening ties between the two ministries.
Considering the Philippine chairmanship of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2026, Serbia’s interest in obtaining observer status in the organisation’s Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) was reiterated.
Đurić emphasised that there is potential for cooperation in the field of education, recalling that Serbia provides scholarships to foreign students within the “World in Serbia” programme, and encouraged Filipino candidates to participate in that programme.
